A revista inglesa "Sight and Sound" promove votações entre críticos de cinema, cineastas e jornalistas a cada dez anos para eleger of filmes mais importantes já feitos. Segundo o crítico Roger Ebert, um escritor que gosto muito, s S&S é "De longe a mais respeitada das inúmeras pesquisas de grandes filmes, a única que a maioria das pessoas sérias de cinema levam a sério"
Acho um pouco exagerado dele, mas as listas estão abaixo. A primeira, de 52, é liderada por "Ladrões de Bicicleta". As subsequentes, até hoje, são lideradas por "Cidadão Kane".
Estas listas devem lhes dar algmum embasamente para já começar a assistir filmes essenciais.
